HP’s rumored 'Sprout PC' sure sounds just like this oddball printer from 2011

It was a scanner on a stick that would take 3D-like images of objects. It Saturday atop a printer that visited market 3 years agone. And it came to mind right away after I detected of the alleged Sprout laptop, which Recode is saying HP will announce next week.

According to a weekday rearrange story, “The [Sprout] combines an outsized flat-screen display…with a flat touch-enabled surface and an overhead assembly that mixes a projector and a 3-D scanner.”

If Recode’s report is real, the Sprout is conceptually just like the horsepower TopShot LaserJet professional M275, a printer I tested for one month for a 2011 review. it's a scanner on associate arm that rises regarding eight.5 inches higher than of} a flat “capture stage” on top of the printer. Here’s what it's like.

As I explained in my 2011 coverage, you'll be able to place alittle, three-dimensional object on the capture stage, and also the TopShot's camera will take multiple images of it. Proprietary software package then creates a composite of these pictures that appears a lot of three-dimensional than one image would.

I was affected by the scanner’s ability to form a 3D-like image. Here I scanned a pear and compared the important factor to its 3D-scanned image, written from the TopShot LaserJet professional M275.

According to rearrange, HP’s Sprout are ready to do way more than scan. It’ll have associate projector that may beam pictures onto a special surface for redaction via bit.

Whether HP’s Sprout can charm to image-oriented businesses and “prosumers,” as rearrange represented the target market, remains to be seen. however if it’s in the least associated with this old printer, the addition of a projector, image manipulation and bit capabilities can build a cool technology even cooler.
